Where does the name Curaçao come from?
Some say 'Curacao' finds ist origin in the Spanish word 'Corazon', or the Portugese ‘Coracao’ which both mean ‘heart’. Others say Curaçao comes from the word 'cura' which means 'healing'. The healing island.
Curacao is approximately 444 km2 the largest island of the Netherlands Antilles in the Caribbean.
It belongs politically to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but is autonomous - so the valid currency denominated, but the Dutch Antilles guilders. The capital of Willemstad is the lively center of the island, marked by enormous overseas and important industry.
